Box Score 2 Queensbury, NY - SUNY Delhi pounded out 56 runs and 45 hits in sweeping a non-conference doubleheader from Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Thursday afternoon. The games were the season openers for the Broncos, while the Hornets fall to 0-4 on the season.
Game 1 - SUNY Delhi 25, NVU-Lyndon 2
Delhi scored 18 runs in the first two innings and never looked back. Shelby Nolan had a huge game with four hits, including three doubles, four runs scored, and five runs batted in. Samantha Mendelsohn also had four hits with three runs batted in. Sierra Keesler and Katelynn Rose both homered for the Broncos. Cecilia Chamul (Concord, VT) had a double and a triple to pace the Hornets. Cassie Black (Tolland, CT), Rachel Valentine (Clarksdale, AZ), and Gracie Ducker (Lyndonville, VT) each had one hit.
Rose went the distance to earn the win in the circle. Valentine started and took the loss.
Game 2 - SUNY Delhi 31, NVU-Lyndon 3
The Broncos kept up the hot hitting in the nightcap. A 14-run second inning put the game away early. Kessler had another big game with four hits including a homer, five runs scored, and six runs batted in. Natasha Picozzi also had four hits, including two doubles, and scored six times while driving in five runs. Nolan and Dakota Baker had three hits apiece for Delhi. Black had two hits and scored once for Lyndon. Ducker and Raeven Beaudry (Sheldon, VT) each had RBI singles. Chamul and Julia Kearney (Medford, MA) had Lyndon's other hits.
Molly Greene allowed six hits and struck out three without issuing a walk in picking up the win. Valentine took the loss for the Hornets.
Lyndon concludes their six game set at the Adirondack Sports Complex Dome with a doubleheader against SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Friday. First pitch is set for 12:00 noon.
