Hornet men's soccer falls at UMaine-Presque Isle

Box Score

Presque Isle, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team fell behind in the first half and wasn't able to rally, falling 4-2 to the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.  The Hornets fall to 0-7-1 on the campaign and 0-2 in NAC play while the Owls improve to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference.

Hunter Wardell got the Owls on the scoreboard in the 14th minute when he scored off of an assist from Jacob Worthley.  Wardell's unassisted goal with less than a minute to go in the first half sent UMaine-Presque Isle to the break with a 2-0 lead.

Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT) scored just over two minutes into the second half to get the Hornets back in the game.  Owl goals from Chad Bartlett and Nathaniel Stone in the 63rd and 66th minutes snuffed out the Lyndon rally, however.  Ognenoff scored his second unassisted goal of the contest in the 72nd minute, but that would be all of the scoring, as UMaine-Presque Isle held off the Hornets to pick up the win.

UMPI outshot Lyndon, 14-10, and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Hornet goalkeeper Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT) and Owl keeper Keith Mank each made three saves in the game.

The Hornets will travel to NVU-Johnson on Tuesday for a matchup that is both a NAC contest and part of the President's Cup challenge.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
