Hornet bats are quiet as softball drops a pair to Rivier

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Hudson, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team fell to Rivier University in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Presentation of Mary Academy.  The host Raiders prevailed 8-0 in the opener and 17-0 in the nightcap, improving their record to 4-8 on the season.  The Hornets remain winless in eight games.

Game 1 - Rivier 8, NVU-Lyndon 0

The Hornets were only able to muster a single base hit against Rivier pitcher Courtney Trahan, Amber Roberts' (Berlin, NH) single leading off the third inning.  The only other Hornet to reach base was Cassandra Black (Tolland, CT), who reached first base on a wild pitch after striking out in the second inning.

Meanwhile, the Raiders delivered 12 hits in producing their eight runs.  Leadoff batter Kelsey Smith had a single and a double, driving in two runs and scoring twice.  Katerina St. Angelo had three hits and also drove in two runs.

Trahan picked up the win in the one-hit shutout, striking out a pair without walking a batter.  Roberts took the loss for Lyndon, allowing four earned runs and 12 hits.

Game 2 - Rivier 17, NVU-Lyndon 0

Rivier scored seven runs in the first inning and five runs in each of the next two frames to put the nightcap away.  Mikayla Ramsdell and Sara Mainville had three hits each for the Raiders, who pounded out 16 hits in the contest.  Mainville and Kendall Liggett scored three runs apiece.

The Hornets again weren't able to generate much of any offense.  Emma Corey (Concord, VT) led off the game with a double but was stranded.  The Hornets got two on in the top of the third when Paige Quesnel (Shoreham, VT) walked and Cecilia Chamul (Concord, VT) followed with a single, but both runners were stranded.  Lyndon's best opportunity to score came in the fourth when Meghan Campo (Essex Junction, VT) siggled with two outs and advanced to second on an error.  Alexis Britch (Essex Junction, VT) singled, miving Campo to third, but the Hornets were unable to drive Campo home.

Sydney Greeno allowed four hits and struck out 11 in picking up the win.  Emma Moore (Hillsborough, NH) started and took the loss for Lyndon.

The Hornets' scheduled Sunday doubleheader at Anna Maria College has been postponed due to poor field conditions.  Lyndon is scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference play next Saturday with a home doubleheader against NVU-Johnson.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
