Hornet men's soccer downs Paul Smith's for first win of the season

Box Score

Lyndonville, VT - Freshman Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) and sophomore Luc Parrett (Eden Mills, VT) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's soccer team to their first win of the season on Wednesday, a 5-2 non-conference victory over Paul Smith's College.  With the win the Hornets move to 1-12-1 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 2-11-1.

Webster got Lyndon going in the 15th minute when he beat his defender and slipped a left footed shot past Bobcat goalkeeper Christopher Perrotta and into the corner of the net.  Paul Smith's evened things in the 30th minute when Treyantae Leak took advantage of a Hornet miscue and put the ball in an open net.

In the 35th minute, Lyndon's Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) put the Hornets on top 2-1 when he took Drew Germain's (Tiverton, RI) touch of a Sam Ognenoff (Brattleboro, VT) pass and rifled a shot past Perrotta.  Things stayed that way into intermission.

Parrett made it 3-1, Lyndon, in the 55th minute.  Ognenoff's corner kick was redirected by Alex Bryant (Topsham, ME) and Parrett was on the spot on the back side to knock it in th open net.  Five minutes later Webster scored for the second time when he took a pass from Ognenoff and put it past Perrotta.

Paul Smith's cut the Hornet lead to 4-2 in the 82nd minute.  Lyndon was called for a foul in the box and Leak converted the resulting penalty kick.  Parrett closed the scoring in the final minute.  Following a Lyndon corner, a scramble ensued in front of the Bobcat goal.  Bryant touched the ball to Parrett, who converted for his second goal.

Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, VT) went the distance in goal for the Hornets.  He picked up the win while making four saves.  Perrotta made six saves for the Bobcats.  Lyndon outshot Paul Smith's 27-13 and held a 58%-42% possession time advantage.

The Hornets are off until Saturday, October 26th, when they return to North Atlantic Conference play when they host SUNY Delhi in a 1:00 pm kickoff.
