Hornet softball falls to Johnson in both ends of a doubleheader

Johnson, VT - The Lyndon State College softball team made the short drive to Johnson State College on Tuesday afternoon, but came out on the short end of both games of a doubleheader.  The Badgers took game one, 9-3, and game two, 13-2.  Lyndon remains winless on the season at 0-18 and 0-8 in North Atlantic Conference play while Johnson is now 3-17 overall and 2-4 in conference.

Game 1 - Johnson 9, Lyndon 3

Despite outhitting the Badgers 10-9, the Hornets were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.  Hannah Choiniere (Highgate, VT) was the bright spot for Lyndon, going a perfect four for four at the plate.  Kiya DeWitt (Pittsburg, NH) also had a pair of hits for the Hornets.  Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, VT) had a pair of hits for the Badgers, driving in two runs and scoring one.  Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, VT) had a two run triple and scored a pair of runs for Johnson.

DeWitt went the distance and took the loss for Lyndon, allowing nine runs with only four earned on nine hits.  Woodward picked up the win for the Badgers, yielding ten hits and striking out eight without walking a batter.

Game 2 - Johnson 13, Lyndon 2

The Badgers took control early in the nightcap, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after two innings.  Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, NH) led the Johnson attack with three hits and two runs batted in.  Savannah Dufresne (Swanton, VT) delivered a bases loaded triple in the first inning and scored a pair of runs as the Badgers pounded out 15 hits in the contest.  Choiniere continued heer perfect day at the plate, delivering a single and a double which made her a perfect six for six on the afternoon.  Taylor Hollis (Corinth, VT) also had a pair of hits for the Hornets.

Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, VT) allowed only one earned and one unearned run on six hits to get the win for Johnson.  She struck out three without a walk.  Amber Roberts (Berlin, NH) took the loss for Lyndon.  Seven of the 13 runs allowed by Roberts were earned.

The Hornets are scheduled to host Castleton University on Wednesday afternoon.  first pitch at the Skip Pound Softball Complex is set for 3:30 pm.  Johnson will travel to New England College on Saturday.
