Box Score 2 Milford, NH - Lyndon State College and the University of Maine at Presque Isle completed their four game softball series at the Hampshire dome this morning. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they didn't fare any better in today's doubleheader, falling 20-1 in game one and 24-0 in game two. The Hornets remain winless in 12 games this season, while the Owls improve to 20-8 on the campaign.
Game 1 - Maine-Presque Isle 20, Lyndon 1
The Owls jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in the opener. Jordi Legassie (Presque Isle, ME) was a perfect five for five at the plate for UMPI, scoring five times and driving in three runs. Jackie Peers (Limestone, ME) was three for four with four runs scored and four runs batted in. Alexis Allock (Madison Heights, VA), Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA), and Nicole Marucci (Naples, ME) had two hits apiece for the Owls.
Cassie Black (Tolland, CT) had two hits for the Hornets and drove in Taylor Hollis (Corinth, VT) in the bottom of the third inning for Lyndon's only run. Hollis and Amber Roberts (Berlin, NH) also had two hits for the Hornets.
Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) went the distance to pick up the win for UMPI. She struck out five, while allowing seven hits and walking only one batter. Roberts took the loss for Lyndon, allowing 11 earned runs on 18 hits, as the Hornets hurt their own cause by committing seven errors.
Game 2 - Maine-Presque Isle 24, Lyndon 0
UMPI again put the game away early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning and nine more in the second. Roni Shaw had a big game at the plate for the Owls, delivering three hits and driving in four runs. Legassie and Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) also had three hits, with Legassie scoring four runs and Diaz scoring three. Marissa Reagle (Seattle, WA) drove in three runs with two hits, and Hailey Davenport (Chicago, IL), Emily Page (Lincoln, ME), Peers, Brianna Losee (Pittsfield, ME), and Marucci all delivered two hits as well. Black had a pair of hits for the Hornets, including a double.
Packard and Peers combined for the shutout, striking out ten batters and allowing five hits. Hollis started and took the loss for Lyndon, with Roberts throwing four innings of relief.
The Hornets will return to North Atlantic Conference play tomorrow at 1:00 pm with a doubleheader at the University of Maine at Farmington. UMPI will play at the College of St. Joseph tomorrow.
