Lyndonville, VT - The Lyndon State College men's soccer team fell behind five minutes into Saturday's Homecoming game against North Athlatic Conference rival Castleton University and were unable to get an euqalizer, as the Spartans came away with a 1-0 victory.  With the win, Castleton improves to 3-5-1 overall and 2-0-1 in NAC play.  Lyndon drops to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference.

With Saturday's game barely five minutes old, Castleton sophomore Fidele Rutayisire (Colchester, VT) headed home a cross by Colby Gay (Milton, VT) to give the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.  That goal would stand up for the next 85 minutes, as neither team was able to break through.

Lyndon had its best scoring opportunity in the 46th minute, when Castleton goalkeeper Aaron Parket (White River Junction, VT) got a hand on a point blank shot from the Hornets' Devin Cowan (Saranac Lake, NY) and redirected it over the crossbar.

Castleton had a chance to extend its advantage in the 59th minute, but Lyndon goalkeeper Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, NY) made a diving stop of a header from the Spartans' Nick Kaiafas (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ).

With just under eight minutes remaining, Parker turned away Lyndon's William Martin (Sherborn, MA), and Castleton was able to keep Lyndon at bay the rest of the way.

Both keepers had solid afternoons.  LaClair stopped 8 of 9 shots on goal, while Parker posted a clean sheet with six saves.  Castelton outshot the Hornets, 24-11, for the game.

Lyndon returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to Green Mountian College for another NAC contest.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.  Castleton will travel to Norwich University on Tuesday.
