Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team suffered their first North Atlantic Conference loss Tuesday evening at Castleton University, 3-0.
The Spartans got things going early, when Nihad Basic took a centering pass from Fidele Rutayisire and finished into the right side of the net to give his squad the early 1-0 lead.
The Spartans added another goal in the 25th minute, when Rutayisire made a run up the center of the defense and finished a long pass from Josh Mathews to make it a 2-0 game going into the halftime break.
In the 54th minute, Jack Kingdon was awarded a penalty kick and capitalized to give Castleton a 3-0 lead it would hold through the final whistle.
The Hornets finished with six shots on goal in the contest. Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss.
Dan Palker recorded the shutout for the hosts.
Lyndon (5-2, 2-1 NAC) host Maine Maritime Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Castleton (2-5-2, 2-1 NAC) travel to Green Mountain on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
