Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team suffered a 5-2 loss at Colby-Sawyer College in North Atlantic Conference play Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets put the first goal on the board in the 7th minute when goalkeeper Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) sent a towering ball past midfield that took two big bounces over the Colby-Sawyer defenders. Junior Hunter Torrey (Newbury, Vt.) connected his head to the ball as it was coming down the second time to finish past the oncoming Charger keeper.
Lyndon doubled its advantage in the 39th minute off another header. Torrey sent a cross into the box where junior Joshua Thibault (Glover, Vt.) finished for his first goal of the season.
Colby-Sawyer was able to get a goal back in the waning moments of the first half when junior Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) scored with 20 seconds to play off a feed from sophomore Anthony Romeo (Albany, N.Y.).
The momentum carried over into the second half as the Chargers went on to score four goals in the second half.
Andrew Clothier scored at 47:01 on an assist from Sexton. Eddie Garcia then gave the Chargers the lead two minutes later when he finished a cross from Jake Sykes. Sexton tacked on two more goals (51:10, 53:31) for the Chargers on a penalty kick and on another assist from Romeo
LaClair finished with nine saves in 73:50 of action, while Caleb Derbyshire (Barton, Vt.) finished the match and made two stops.
Jake Towle finished with three saves in the win.
Lyndon (5-6-0, 2-5-0 NAC) travels to Thomas College Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. start.
Colby-Sawyer (6-4-1, 3-1-1 NAC) head to Green Mountain College on Wednesday.
