Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University Sunday afternoon, coming up short 4-2.
Cooper Antone scored two goals for the visitors while Jimmy Fitzpatrick added one. Cody Gross made three saves in the win.
Devin Cowan (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and Nik Fahey (Middleboro, Mass.) recorded a goal each for the Hornets. Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) made six saves in net for the loss.
The Eagles got on the board first in the 14th minute as Antone raced defenseman Dylan Jacobs (Braintree, Vt.) to a ball rolling toward the Lyndon net. Antone got a couple touches on the ball but in an effort to knock the ball away Jacobs footed the ball into the Lyndon net, giving Husson the 1-0 lead.
In the 45th minute, Antone again found himself racing the Hornet defense. Antone knocked his shot in the charging LaClair, but the ball knocked off of LaClair and found its way into the net for the 2-0 Husson lead.
Cowan cut the lead in half for the Hornets in the 56th minute on a 3-on-1 breakaway. Hunter Torrey brought the ball up the left side and crossed the ball to a sprinting Cowan on the right side who laced a shot off Gross and into the goal.
Less than two minutes later, Miguel Caballero led Antone up the field with a pass, then Antone stopped and laced a shot from close range off LaClair's hands into the net.
Fitzpatrick added the final goal for Husson at the 88:17 mark for the 4-1 lead.
Despite the three-goal deficit, the Hornets kept fighting and AJ Dau headed a ball forward to Fahey in the box who placed the ball by the right side of Gross. With not enough time left, the Hornets were unable to score again, finishing the game 4-2 in favor of Husson.
