Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Maine Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Hornets put the pressure on the Mariner defense early getting eight shots on goal throughout the first half but were unable to get one by keeper Joshua Reeks as the half finish at an even 0-0.
That would change in the 54th minute as Hunter Torrey (Newbury, Vt.) gained the possession of the ball after a Mariner goal kick, and laced a shot up over Reeks for the 1-0 advantage.
The goal raised the intensity by both teams but in the 76th minute Matthew Caron crossed the ball in front of the goal from the right side where Dalton Moore was able to get an outstretched foot on it, sending it into the goal. About two minutes later Moore returned the favor on a breakaway. Moore found Caron on a two-on-one breakaway and after settling the pass, Caron placed a shot past the charging keeper for the 2-1 lead.
Ike Doiron added an insurance goal for the visitors on a penalty kick that clanked off the right then left post before crossing the line for the 3-1 in the 81st minute.
Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the loss for the Hornets.
Reeks took the win for the Mariners with 11 saves.
