Hornets 0-2 in NAC after loss to Thomas

Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men's soccer team dropped a conference match-up with Thomas College on Saturday, 6-0.  Freshman DJ Nicholas tallied three goals on the day.

Nicholas's first came in just the 7th minute off a through pass from Tre Ming.

With the score 1-0, both teams battled and produced shots for the next 38 minutes but came up fruitless.

That would change in the 51st minute when Hornet keeper Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.) saved a shot from Josh Emard but was unable to get possession and Nicholas was there to send it into the net to make the score 2-0.  Less than four minutes later, Nicholas would pick up his third goal off a through pass from Willie Clemons.

As the game proceeded, the Terriers continued to get attempts at the goal but LaClair made numerous saves until the 74th minute.  William Nilson made a cross from the right side of the field to Kyle Fletcher who settled the ball then drove a shot into the left side of the goal to push the score to 4-0.

In the 84th minute it would be Fletcher again after Tre Ming's header tipped it forward to the streaking Fletcher.  Fletcher controlled the ball then let off a shot.  LaClair reached to get his left hand on it but deflected shot still made its way into the net.  The Terriers capped of their scoring in the 89th minute as Tre Ming received a lead pass from London Steede-Jackson, found himself with no defenders in the area, and got a shot around LaClair to end the day's score at 6-0.

The Hornets (1-5-0, 0-2 NAC) host St. Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday at 4:00pm for a non-conference match.
