Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Lyndon State College men's basketball team fell to Plymouth State University 76-53 in non-conference action Thursday night. The Hornets fall to 2-2 while the Panthers stay perfect at 7-0.
The Panthers used strong starts at the beginning of each half to dispatch the visiting Hornets. PSU grabbed a 16-2 lead in the first eight minutes as Lyndon struggled from the field, shooting just 36 percent in the half. After falling behind 31-11, the Hornets went on a 14-7 run fueled by six points from freshman Gabriel Torres (Woodland, Calif.) and four from Xavier Colbert (Manassas, Va.) to whittle the lead down to 13, at 38-25. However, a three from Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) pushed the score to 41-25 going into the break.
The Panthers started the second half on a 14-0 run, pushing the lead to 55-25. Midway through the second half the Panthers held a 65-36 advantage before the Hornets rallied for 12 straight points over the next five minutes. The Hornets were unable to close the gap further before the final horn.
Lyndon was led by freshman guard Ty Roane (North Bend, Ore.), who came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points, including 3-of-5 from long range. Torres added nine points off the bench and was 2-of-4 from behind the arc. Junior John Hamilton (Alameda, Calif.) recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
Plymouth State was led by sophomore Brian Boulay (Keene, N.H.) who tallied 13 points. Junior Jack Preston (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) added 12 each while senior Uche Nwokeji (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Curtis Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) chipped in 10 apiece.
The Hornets open up North Atlantic Conference play at home against Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Panthers host Rhode Island College in Little East Conference play on Saturday.
