Box Score LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – The Lyndon men's soccer team fell to visiting New England College 4-1 in North Atlantic Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
The Pilgrims broke into the scoring column in the 12th minute with a Ronsard Masamba (Haverhill, Mass.) header off a Rizy Misiri (Concord, N.H.) free kick from the right side of the field. In the 34th minute Masamba took a corner kick from the right corner that found Michael Skarbelis (North Andover, Mass.) who headed it into the net.
Skarbelis would pick up his second goal of the game when he placed a free kick from just outside the box into the top right corner of the goal in the 56th minute. Just a few minutes later (59th minute), Ricardi Valme found a loose ball in the box that the Hornets were unable to clear and kicked it in to push the score to 4-0 in favor of the Pilgrims.
Down with 30 minutes left the play, the Hornets continued to attack the Pilgrim defense even though they had come up empty-handed so far. Lyndon's Hunter Torrey (Newbury, Vt.) would deny Dylan Mix (Charlestown, N.H.) the shutout for the Pilgrims in the 82nd minute as Mix was unable to control a header from Liam Kelleher and Torrey was there to put it in the net. Kelleher would test Mix one more time with a header off a corner kick but Mix held strong and the game finished 4-1 in favor of the visiting Pilgrims.
Mix finished with two saves in gaining the win.
Matt LaClair recorded the loss while saving seven shots in 68 minutes of work for the Hornets. Jason Pelkey (Barre, Vt.) relieved LaClair and made one save.
The Hornets (1-11, 0-6 NAC) travel to play Johnson State College on Wednesday at 4:00pm. New England College (10-6, 4-3 NAC) hosts Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday at 2:30pm.
