Box Score MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team defeated Lyndon 4-1 Monday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improve to 6-4-1 overall while the Hornets fell to 4-7 on the season.
The Colonels came out strong to start the opening frame. Curry netted the first two goals just 1:41 apart. With less than 10 minutes into play, Ben Silvia tallied his first collegiate goal. Rolando Montero sent a though pass to Silvia who one-timed it into the top right corner of the net.
Less than two minutes later, the Colonels extended their lead after Matt Cotnoir ripped a shot from 15-yards out past Lyndon goaltender Matt LaClair (Beekmantown, N.Y.). Montero sent a cross from the corner of the field to earn his second assist.
Despite outshooting the Hawks, 7-0, over a 20 minute span, Lyndon would finally gain control of the ball and into Curry's offensive zone. At the 23:21 minute mark, the Hawks got themselves on the board. Eric Nelson (Guildhall, Vt.) saw an open Devin Cowan (Gabriels, N.Y.) inside the box who stuck it by Curry goalkeeper Dan Johnson .
The Colonel's headed into the break with a 3-1 advantage after Tim Stein scored one off a pass from Ryan Madden.
Curry capped off the scoring in the final half midway through. Silvia earned his second goal on the night when Larry Janvier saw Silvia open in front of the net. Silvia got one touch on the ball that landed over LaClair to help his team to their sixth victory.
The Colonels finished with 32 shots and five corner kicks. The Hornets finished with five shots and two corner kicks.
Johnson made two saves in net in 45 minutes of play for the win before giving away to Andrew Knighton who saw his first time in goal this season. Knighton made one stop in 45 minutes. LaClair made 12 saves in net for the loss.
Lyndon will play host to Norwich University Wednesday in a 4 p.m. start.
