Lyndon splits twin bill with Johnson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon won the opener of a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader only to see in-state rival Johnson State College turn the tables in the nightcap.  The Hornets won game one 11-0 in 5 innings and the Badgers took Game 2 by the same score.

GAME 1

In game one Lyndon put six runs on the board in the top of the third inning with two outs while sending five home in the fourth, to blank the hosts 11-0.  Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.) went 2-for-3 contributing a home run, and 3 RBIs towards the Hornet's winning effort. Jillian Emery (Johnson, Vt.) went 2-4 while scoring off of a Davis home run.

While pitching, Davis kept things clean allowing zero runs and three hits while striking out five and walking one.

Meagan Russ suffered the losing pitching decision going three and 2/3 innings allowing zero earned runs, three hits, and four walks while striking out three.

The first hit of the game came in the bottom of the second from Johnson's Emily Comins who singled, but Davis' pitching closed the inning scoreless. In the top of the third, Jenna Carpenter (Barnet, Vt.) advanced to first on a walk and would eventually score putting Lyndon on the board 1-0.

After an Ashley Barski (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) double, Connor Kelsey relieved Russ allowing a single and a walk as the Hornets brought in five additional runners over the course of the inning heading into the fourth leading 6-0.

Lyndon continued their momentum into the top of the fourth inning. After a Johnson error, Jen Lynch (Portland, Maine) singled, followed by a base hit from Emery which allowed Lynch to move into scoring position. Davis supplied a homerun the next pitch, bringing in three runs advancing the Hornets to 9-0.   Alise Vandal (North Andover, Mass.) knocked a ball over the fence to bring in two more runs as the Hornets ended the inning up 11-0.

GAME 2

The Badgers picked up a win thanks to Katja Langmaid's back-to-back grand slams giving the Badgers the momentum they needed to blank the Hornets 11-0.

Andrea Williams picked up the win striking out 9 and allowing zero earned runs on two hits and not walking a batter. The offense was paced by sophomore outfielder Langmaid who went 2-for-3 with 9 RBIs and freshman Alexandra Bean who went 2-for-3, two runs and one.

Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) started game two for Lyndon allowing 11 earned runs over four innings and striking out 1 batter.

Johnson took a 4-0 lead in the first inning when Langmaid hit a home run bringing in 4 runs for the hosts. In the bottom of the second, Bean singled bringing a runner home, advancing the Badgers 5-0. Langmaid would step up to the plate with the bases loaded again and connect to deliver her second grand slam of the night bumping the Badgers to a 9-0 lead.

Continuing her streak into the fourth, Langmaid singled, sending senior Tanya Randall home. After a quick sprint from pinch runner Taryn Colby the Badgers sealed their victory 11-0.

Davis and Jena Finnegan (Keeseville, N.Y.) had one hits each for the Hornets.
