Spartans sweep Hornets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon and Castleton renewed their in-state softball rivalry Thursday at Skip Pound Field with the Spartans walking off with a pair of narrow victories. Castleton took the opener 2-0 behind the one-hit pitching of Taylor Lively and held off a late Hornet rally to take the nightcap 2-1.

In Game 1, Lively allowed a leadoff single to Jena Finnegan (Keeseville, N.Y.) in the first and struck out eight to propel the Spartans. Jessica Babcock had three hits, including an inside-the-park home run, and Brittany Brayman added two.

Katie Davis (North Haverhill, N.H.) went the distance for the Hornets, allowing one earned runs on 10 hits while fanning six.

In Game 2, Chelsea Crehan's run-scoring single in the fifth provided the margin of victory and sent Castleton on to its 10th North Atlantic Conference victory of the season. Crehan had two hits in the contest in support of starter Emily Sweeney. She allowed no earned runs on five hits while striking out one.

Jen Lynch (Portland, Maine) had two hits for the Hornets and Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) absorbed the loss. She allowed two earned runs on five hits while fanning three.
