Lyndon stunned by late NEC rally

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — New England College rallied from a 7-4 deficit in its final at bat to record an 8-7 win over Lyndon Thursday in the nightcap of a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Skip Pound Field.

The Hornets, fueled by a two-out, three-run double off the bat of Jen Lynch (Portland, Maine), plated six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a three-run lead heading into the Pilgrims final at bat. A two-out two-run single by Rebecca Allen and a runs-scoring triple off the bat of Brittney Distante erased the deficit and sent NEC on to its 14th win of the season and its 12th in NAC play.

Allen and Taylor Belsito had two hits each for the winners while Lynch, Katie Ste. Marie (North Troy, Vt.) and Alise Vandal (NOrth Andover, Mass.) collected two hits apiece for Lyndon.
 
Elizabeth Harrigan allowed four earned runs and struck out four to get the win and Hornets starter Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) took the loss, giving up six earned runs while fanning two.

In the opener, the Pilgrims (14-14, 10-2) pounded out 12 hits en route to an 8-0 win in five innings. Allen, Kiley Williams, Alyssa Krause and Jessica Kiehl had two hits each and Olivia Stanley went the distance to get the win. She allowed only two hits in the contest while striking out five.

Vandal and Katie Davis (North haverhill, N.H.)had one hit each for the Hornets (7-19, 3-9) and Davis was tagged with the loss. She allowed six earned while fanning seven NEC batters.   

On Wednesday, 12 errors spelled doom for Lyndon as the Hornets dropped a twin bill to Thomas. The Terriers upped thier overall record to 8-12, and their North Atlantic Conference mark to 7-9 with a doubleheader sweep of Lyndon. The Terriers won the opener 7-2 and took the nightcap 8-1.

In Game 1, six Lyndon errors led to six unearned runs and a tough loss for the hornets. Lauren Hachey and Samantha Moore had two hits each for Thomas and Alyssa Eugley added a triple.

Faith Robinson went the distance to get the win allowing one earned run while striking out two.

Jena Finnegan (Keeseville, N.Y.) had two hits in the loss and Lyndon pitcher Katie Davis allowed one earned run while fanning six.

In Game 2, five more Lyndon errors spelled doom for the hosts and propelled the Terriers on to the sweep.

Moore collected three hits – all doubles - and Janelle Coimei knocked in three. Robinson went all seven innings to get the win, allowing one earned runs and striking out four.

Alise Vandal had two hits, including a double, for Lyndon and Meghan Gadapee was tagged with the loss. She allowed four earned runs while fanning three.
