Lyndon tops NEC in overtime

Box Score

HENNIKER, N.H. – Lyndon junior guard David Johnson (Washington, D.C) tossed in 24 points, including seven in overtime, to lift the Hornets past New England College 85-82 Thursday evening.

With the win the Hornets are now 2-4 overall and improve to 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 in the NAC.

The two teams would battle closely through much of the opening half before the Pilgrims would use an 11-2 run to build their largest lead of the half up 34-24 with less than two minutes remaining on the clock.

Lyndon would respond scoring the next six points cutting the lead to four late but NEC would back-to-back jumpers by Jonathan Byrnes and Terrance Thompson to close out the half up 38-30.

NEC would build their lead to 12 points early in the second half but the comfortable lead would be short as Lyndon would slowly chip away and take their first lead since early in the opening half going up 48-47 at the 13:04 mark.

There would be seven lead changes over the final 13 minutes of regulation as the Pilgrims would get a layup by Malachi Davis with 18 seconds on the clock knotting the game at 67-67 and forcing overtime.

The Pilgrims would take the 70-69 lead 30 seconds into overtime but the Hornets would get a jumper from Johnson to reclaim the lead and never look back en route to the 85-82 victory.

Lyndon's George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) finished with a double-double recording 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.  Josh Bosworth (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led all rebounders with 11 on the evening, while Howard Lyles (Washington, D.C.) chipped in 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

Byrnes led all Pilgrim scorers finishing with 15 points. Davis chipped in 13 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Dezron Wilson was the only other Pilgrim in double-figures finishing with 11 points and six rebounds.
