Box Score

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — John Kendall's goal at the 8:29 mark of the first overtime period provided the margin of victory as Castleton edged Lyndon 3-2 in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday.

The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead 23:52 into the opening period on a goal by Spencer Dandurand with an assist going to Drazen Smith. Castleton maintain the slim advantage through intermission until Conor Meade (Warwick, NY) tallied the first goal of his Hornets career at 61:01 off an assist from Chris Wilkins (Heath, Mass.).

The Spartans regained the lead four minutes later on an Owen Fellows unassisted tally and that advantage held for just over 20 minutes when Meade scored his second goal of the game with 5:06 left to send the game to overtime. Blake Begnoche (Fairfax, Vt.) was credited with an assist on the play.

Both squads had solid chances to score in overtime, but Kendall made the most of his opportunity. He beat Lyndon goalkeeper Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) to a loose ball on the left side and fired a shot over Marks that found the back of the net.

Marks made 11 saves in the loss while Spartan goalie Nate Koenemann turned aside one shot to earn the victory. Castleton (8-2-2, 4-1-1) out shot Lyndon (0-12-1, 0-6-1) by a margin of 27-5 and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
