Lyndon falls to Husson In NAC Quarterfinals

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine - Husson defeated Lyndon 2-1 at Boucher Field in the quarterfinal round of the North Atlantic Conference men's soccer playoffs. Two early goals for the Eagles were enough to put them past the seventh-seeded Hornets.

Husson who entered the match ranked second in the NAC bracket found themselves locked into an extremely physical match with Lyndon, a team they beat earlier in the season on the road 3-0. Stephen Berenyi put the Eagles on top 1-0 in the fifth minute of the game when he took a ball passed up from Phil Frost and James Crockford and placed it perfectly beyond the reach of Hornets goalkeeper Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.).

Just over 10 minutes later, in the 17th minute, the Eagles' Zach Emeigh blasted a ball into net on a free kick, putting Husson up 2-0. Hornet first-year midfielder Blake Begnoche (Fairfax, Vt.) finally got a ball in net, to cut the deficit to 2-1, after attempting a number of shots on Husson goalkeeper Brian Potter.

The remainder of the game went without seeing a change on the scoreboard but did not lack excitement. Potter earned the victory in net stopping five shots. Husson had numerous opportunities, taking 29 shots on the day. Gray had an equally impressive performance in net for Lyndon.
