LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon broke open a 1-1 tie with two goals in a 27-second span to earn a 3-1 victory over Green Mountain Thursday in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in NAC play while Green Mountain fell to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

The contest began as an up-and-down affair with both squads creating several opportunities to score. At the 31:21 mark of the opening half, Yessi Gar-Elnabi gave Lyndon the lead with goal from the left wing that found its way into the far right corner of the net behind Eagles' goalkeeper Toliver DiMasi.

The Hornets managed to maintain their lead into the second half, but midway through the period, Green Mountain went on the offensive. After a few unsuccessful runs at the Lyndon net, the Eagles' Nate Laymon pushed a loose ball down the left side of the field, turned the corner on a Lyndon defender and deposited a blast into the far right corner of the net. The goal was unassisted.

As the final minutes of the game began to tick away, the Lyndon offense came back to life, peppering DiMasi with several shots from within the penalty box. With 9:13 left to play, Kyle Mecham headed home a Quinn Rambo corner kick to give the host s 2-1 advantage and less than 30 seconds later Patrice Lumumba and Eric Nelson worked the give-and-go to perfection, resulting in a Lumumba's fifth goal of the season and a 3-1 Lyndon lead.

Green Mountain continued to press, but could not find the net behind Hornet goalie Jason Gray in the time remaining. Gray made one save to earn the win while DiMasi stopped six shots in the loss.

Lyndon held a 20-6 advantage in shots and Green Mountain earned six corner kicks to the Hornets' five.
