Box Score 2 ELIOT, Maine - Lyndon split a twin bill with University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference softball action at Marshwood High School. The Beavers won the first game 9-5, but the Hornets rallied to earn a 13-12 victory in eight innings in Game 2.
In the opener, Kaitlyn Bartlett slugged a single, a double and a homer with three RBI as the Beavers notched their first win of the season. Amy Jones smacked two singles and a home run with two RBI, while Shannon Mitchell singled and homered; and Meaghan Donnell clubbed an RBI double.
Natalia Shams (Swampscott, Mass.) singled twice for Lyndon with Kelly Butler (Hubbardston, Mass.) chipping in a single and three RBI. Emma Vaillancourt tossed a complete game to get the win with five hits allowed, one walk and nine strikeouts. Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) was hit with the loss with 13 hits allowed and one strikeout.
In the second game, Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, N.H.) capped a four-hit, four-RBI day with a single scoring Erica Parker in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Lyndon to a wild 13-12 win over the Beavers.
The Beavers held three early leads, but Lyndon grabbed a 7-5 lead after three innings. UMF briefly regained the lead at 9-7, but the Hornets tied the game at 11-11 in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
After the Beavers plated a run in the top of the eighth, Lyndon's Erica Parker (Rochester, Vt.) laid down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown into rightfield for an error. Gadapee scored on the play to tie the game at 12-12 and Parker moved into scoring position with no one out.
Morgan Sanderson (Fairfax, Vt.) bunted Parker to third and forced Farmington to play their infield and outfield in to cut down the game-winning run which was only 60 feet from home. That set the stage for Willey to swap her game-winning single into rightfield through the drawn-in infield.
Mary Gagne (Highgate, Vt.) rapped a pair of singles in the victory and seven of Lyndon's starters drove in at least a run. Jones crushed a pair of home runs and plated four runs with McKell Barnes providing two singles, a homer and two RBI, Bartlett and Lily Barry two doubles apiece and Sam Morency three singles.
Shams went the distance for Lyndon in the win allowing 13 hits, eight walks and two punchouts. Bartlett, who started and re-entered, took the loss with three walks and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
