Box Score 2 LEICESTER, Mass. - Lyndon split its non-conference doubleheader with Becker, losing the first game in dramatic fashion 6-5, before winning 9-1 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Lyndon jumped out to an early lead when Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, Vt.) hit a three run homerun over the right centerfield fence. Becker responded in the bottom of the first when Rachel Walsh hit a leadoff triple and Larissa Paula hit an run-scoringsingle to make t score 3-1.
The Hawks cut the Hornets lead to 3-2 in the second inning on a Paige Needham double, scoring Whitney Buck from scond. The two teams exchanged runs in the fourth inning, making the score 4-3 heading into the fifth. ecker would tie the game in the bottom of the inning on a Lyndon error.
The Hornets took advantage of Becker's sloppy defense in the top of the sixth as they took a 5-4 lead on an error.The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh inning with Talan Barron standing on second base and the Hawks down to their final out.
Whitney Buck smashed a walk off home run over the left field fence, giving Becker a dramatic 6-5 win. Meghan Gadapee (Littleton, N.H.) took the loss for Lyndon after pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits. Jessica Lewis got the win for the Hawks after pitching seven innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits.
Game 2 was a much different story as the Hawks defense allowed Lyndon to score four unearned runs off Becker starting pitcher Paige Needham. Gadapee redeemed herself from the loss in the opener by pitching a complete game, and going two-for-four at the plate with two RBI.
Mary Gagne (Highgate, Vt.) led the Hornets going three-for-four with an RBI. Billado also chipped in with two hits and two runs scored. Needham pitched well for Hawks in a losing effort, striking out 13 Hornets over seven innings of work.
