Box Score RUTLAND, Vt. - Lyndon ran its record to 6-1-2
on the season with a 7-2 road victory over the College of St.
Joseph.
Patrice Lumumba (Burlington, Vt.) opened the scoring early in
the contest with an unassisted goal at 1:45. The slim margin stood
for nearly 30 minutes before Cory Hathaway (Fairfax, Vt.) tallied
his first collegiate goal at 30:06 to give the Hornets a two-goal
cushion they would take into halftime.
Emmitt Simpson (Barton, Vt.) scored the first of his two goals
in the contest at 48:06 and Teague Coyle (Northfield, Vt.) found
the back of the net less than five minutes later to extend the lead
to 4-0. Devin Bailey came out of the CSJ net in the second half and
tallied the Saints' first goal of the game at the 54:35 mark. But
Simpson squelched any hopes of a comeback with a goal at
56:14 to help Lyndon regained its four-goal
advantage.
Andrew Talerico scored the final St. Joseph's goal at 76:11, off
an assist from John Puglise, and Matthew Davey (Cranston, R.I.)
came off the Lyndon bench to score goals at 83:30 and 88:08 to
close out the scoring in the contest. Hornets' goalkeeper Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) made five saves to get the win while
Bailey and Donald Purcell combined to make 15 saves in the
contest.
