Second-half surge propels Lyndon to victory

Box Score

After a scoreless first half of play, Matheaus Sousa gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 55:30 when he drilled a shot into the top of the net behind Lyndon goalkeeper Jason Gray (east thetford, Vt.). Less than six minutes later, Lyndon took the lead for good by tallying two goals in a 40-second span.

Tanner Blais (St. Albans, Vt.) scored the first goal of his Lyndon career at 63:54 on a through ball from Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) to knot the game at 1-1 before Patrice Lumumba (Burlington, Vt.) gave the Hornets a lead they would never relinquish off another assist from Mecham at 70:31.

Lyndon upped its advantage to two goals at the 70:31 as Richard Hackett (Barton, Vt.) scored off his own rebound. Mecham made it 4-1 less than five minutes later, scoring off a chip from Lumumba.

Becker fought back and managed to cut the deficit to 4-2 on a tally by Branden Frey with 4:28 left to play. But Lyndon squelched the uprising to secure its third win of the season.

Gray made five saves to pick up the win while Hawks' goalie Tim McDonald collected a total of six saves in the contest.
