Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - Trevor Kotrady scored one goal
and assisted on another as the Castleton State College men's
soccer team defeated Lyndon 3-0 at Spartan Stadium in North
Atlantic Conference action.
Near the 28th minute, Kotrady struck a shot that knuckled
towards the far post but Hornet goaltender Jason Gray (East
Thetford, Vt.) made a beautiful leaping save to keep the score
knotted at 0-0. On the ensuing corner kick, Josh Costa crossed the
ball to the far post and Nick Johnas finished with a header by Gray
for a 1-0 advantage.
Kotrady picked up his fifth assist of the season at 32:42 of the
first half lofting a cross from the left flank to Anthony Buehler
who headed the ball into the top left corner for a 2-0 lead. Just
two minutes and five seconds later, Kotrady tallied his fourth
marker of the season finding a loose ball just eight yards out from
the goal and blasted it home for a commanding 3-0 gap.
Five minutes into the second half, Nate Koenemann robbed Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) on a direct kick from 30 yards out diving
towards the far post to keep Castleton ahead 3-0. Gray finished the
afternoon with 14 saves in net as the Spartans outshot Lyndon St.
35-9. Castleton won the corners match-up 10-2.
