Tom White

A former Colby-Sawyer College standout, Tom White enters his fifth season at the helm of the Lyndon State College baseball program in 2018.

In 2017 White led the Hornets to a program record setting 22 wins and a 22-20 overall record.  Lyndon finished 13-11 in North Atlantic Conference play, which was good for 3rd place in the final standings.  The Hornets made the fewest errors (54) and recorded the highest in conference fielding percentage (.969) in the NAC.  The Hornets were also second in batting average, stolen bases, and overall fielding percentage (.960), and fourth in ERA (4.48), hits, and runs scored.  Two Hornets, Devin Rollins (1B) and Andre Eason Jr (OF) were 1st Team All-NAC selections, while two others, Ryan Cordiero (SS) and Jason Doris (C) were 2nd Team All-NAC.  Coach White was recognized by his peers as the 2017 NAC Coach of the Year.

White made an immediate impact on the Lyndon program upon his arrival in 2014 as the Hornets recorded 10 wins and qualified for the North Atlantic Conference playoffs in his first season. In 2015, the program showed steady improvement winning 10 games in the NAC conference tying for 4th place in the final standings. 2016, the program again won double digit games with key victories over Plymouth State University and Castleton. Since taking over the program White has produced nine all conference selections and the 2016 NAC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year (Reece Tanguay).

Upon completion of his stellar academic and athletic career with the Chargers’ baseball and soccer programs, White enrolled in graduate studies at nearby Plymouth State University where he graduated in August 2010 with a Masters of Education degree in Athletic Administration.

In his tenure at PSU, he spent three years as an assistant coach on the Panthers’ baseball staff working primarily as the team’s hitting coach and a recruiter. His contributions played a significant role in Plymouth’s back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2012 & 2013 as well as its runner-up finish in the Little East Conference in 2012.

Before arriving at Lyndon, White pursued a teaching licensure at Salem (Mass.) State University in the field of Physical Education. To broaden his coaching background, White was an assistant for Massachusetts baseball, coaching Pete Moscariello at Reading Memorial High School.  White taught hitting and fielding fundamentals while providing skill assessments and improvement.

Through the recruiting efforts of White and his staff, the Hornet roster has grown from 20 student-athletes to one of more than 30 in the past 2 seasons. A strong supporter of academia, White constantly pushes his athletes to strive for academic excellence. Currently, the Lyndon Baseball Program currently holds a team Grade-Point-Average (GPA) of over a 3.0.

In terms of community service, the Hornets offer a variety of program for youth players including the Lyndon Summer Baseball Camp (July) and the Hornet Exposure Clinic (August).  The program also hosted the 2016 Annual Twin State Classic involving the top seniors from NH and Vermont.  Over the Fall 2017 Alumni Weekend the program hosted the Lyndon Golf Classic fundraiser, which attracted 27 teams and over 115 golfers.

White was recently inducted to the Colby-Sawyer College Athletic Hall of Fame in the Fall of 2014 for his accomplishments on both the Charger men’s soccer and baseball teams. He was a four-time All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Team selection in Baseball and was named the 2006 Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. In 2009, he was named a First-Team All-New England Baseball Team.

In the coming years, White looks forward to building the Hornets into one of the more competitive baseball programs in the Northeast region.

In addition to his coaching duties at Lyndon, White also serves as the Assistant Registrar.
