Randolph Center, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon midfielder Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Westminster, CO) made her presence felt in her first collegiate soccer game. The junior found the back of the net three times to lift the Hornets past Vermont State University Randolph, 4-0. Lyndon evens their record at 1-1 on the season and picked up the first win for new Hornet head coach Quinn Bressler. The game was Randolph's season opener.
Frydenlund got the Hornets on the scoreboard in the eighth minute when she took a pass from Kailee Dohrman (Buffalo, NY) and fired a shot past Knight goalkeeper Annabelle Brookes. Lyndon extended their lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute when Randolph was called for a foul in the box and Emily Clark (St. Johnsbury, VT) converted the ensuing penalty kick. Frydenlund's second goal, a redirect of a Phoebe Crocker (Danville, VT) pass in the 35th minute, sent Lyndon into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Frydenlund completed her hat trick in the 67th minute. She took a pass from Dohrman at the top of the box and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net. That proved to be the only tally of the second half.
Lyndon dominated play throughout, outshooting Randolph, 29-2. Hornet keepers Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) and Ella Renaud (Hardwick, VT) combined for the shutout. Each played a half, with Renaud stopping both Randolph shots on goal. Brookes went the distance in goal for the Knights and stopped 20 Lyndon shots on goal.
The Hornets will face their first NCAA Division III opponent of the season on Wednesday when they travel to New England College for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
