Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Owls scored twice in each half to earn the North Atlantic Conference victory.
UMPI opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Isaac Doore converted a rebound of a shot from Ayden Burnett.  The Owls doubled their advantage in the 19th minute as Jovain Barrett finished a corner kick from Edmundo Cuervo-Alanis.
Lyndon goalkeeper Gavin Getz (Helotes, TX) kept the Hornets within striking distance during the opening half, making four saves. Â Getz turned aside a pair of shots by Cuervo-Alanis in the opening 16 minutes and stopped another attempt by Ayden Burnett in the 21st minute.
The Hornets generated their first shot in the 35th minute when Eric Shorter (Acworth, GA) sent an attempt wide of the UMPI goal. The Owls carried their 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Lyndon looked to cut into the deficit after the break, but UMPI continued to pressure the Hornet defense. Â Barrett scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 76th minute, and Burnett added a goal in the 87th minute to complete the scoring.
Getz finished with six saves for Lyndon. Â Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA) recorded the Hornets' lone shot on goal, while Fisher Lajoie (Anchorage, AK) and Shorter also recorded shots. Â Lyndon finished with four shots overall and one corner kick in the second half, while UMPI held a 25-4 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
The loss drops Lyndon to 0-6-1 overall and 0-2Â in NAC play, while UMPI improves to 1-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
Lyndon's next scheduled regular-season contest will be Saturday, October 3, when the Hornets host Maine Maritime Academy in an NAC matchup.
