Henniker, NH - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team traveled to New England College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they came up on the short end of a 4-2 result. NEC improved to 3-1 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 0-2-1.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Edwin Flores-Soto got NEC on the board, heading in a corner kick from Amit Solomon. Two minutes later, Chase Gurtowsky scored off of another corner, then Gurtowsky found the back of the net again in the 26't minute, giving the Pilgrims a 3-0 advantage that they would hole for the rest of the half.
NEC would tack on a goal from Deegan Tomaz in the 71st minute.
Lyndon finally got on the scoreboard in the 75th minute when Jett Burnett (Layton, UT) found Fisher Lajoie (Anchorage, AK) making a run down the right side, and Lajoie fired a shot past NEC goalkeeper Frederick Rosen. Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA) completed the scoring in the final when in a scramble in front of the goal he poked the ball past Rosen.
NEC outshot Lyndon, 18-6, and earned 11 corners to to for the Hornets. Matt Guzman started in the Pilgrim net and stopped the only shot he faced, before Rosen relieved him in the 72nd minute. Cayden Crowley (Pahrump, NV) and Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT) each played a half in goal for Lyndon. Crowley stopped six of nine shots on goal, while Pierce stopped two of three.
The Hornets will host Roxbury Community College in a 2:00 pm exhibition game on Saturday afternoon. Lyndon's next regular season contest will be next Tuesday, when Plymouth State University comes to Varsity Field for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
