Northfield, VT - In a back and forth affair that included 27 runs and 27 hits, Norwich University outlasted Vermont State University Lyndon, capturing a 15-12 non-conference baseball victory over the Hornets on Thursday afternoon. Norwich improved to 7-16 with the win, while Lyndon fell to 6-12 on the season.
Jack Lang led Norwich with a home run, two doubles, and four runs batted in. Trevor Lussier also had a big game with a home run, a single, four runs batted in, and two RBIs. Jack Medhurst had a pair of hits and three runs scored for the Cadets. Kevin Ohlsen also had two hits.
Eric Hernandez Jr. (Fairfax, VT) had a huge game for the Hornets. He was four for five at the plate with two doubles and three runs batted in. Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA) notched a home run, a double, and a single, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Jack Daicar (Kingston, ON) also homered and Luke Senecal-Lamothe (Benson, VT) had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Both teams went heavily into the bullpen. Nathan Abbott, the fourth of five Norwich pitchers, picked up the win. Bryson Bush pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save. Ethan Cross (Millbrook, ON), the fifth of six Lyndon pitchers, took the loss.
Lyndon will travel to the State University of New York at Cobleskill for a four game series on Friday and Saturday. First ptich on Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
