Revere, MA - The Vermont State University Lyndon softball team took to the road for the final time of the 2026 season on Tuesday, traveling to Lesley University for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the host Lynx came out on top in both games of the twin bill and improved to 3-21 overall and 3-8 in the NAC. The Hornets fell to 2-18 on the season and 0-12 in conference.
Game 1 - Lesley 13, VTSU Lyndon 5
The Hornets took a 4-3 lead in the top of the second inning, but Lesley responded with seven runs over the next two innings to take control. Leah St. John had four hits, including a home run and a double, drove in six runs, and scored four to pace Lesley. Shae Thomas and Lauren Martin added three hits apiece for the Lynx.
Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) had a single and a double with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace Lyndon. Sarah Collier (Hardwick, VT) also had two hits for the Hornets.
Madison Herbert picked up the complete game victory in the circle. She allowed two earned runs and eight hits over five innings. Hornet starter Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH) took the loss.
Game 2 - Lesley 7, VTSU Lyndon 2
Lyndon again grabbed the early lead but couldn't hold off Lesley. St. John had a single and a double for the Lynx. Martin drove in a pair and scored once.
The Hornets were limited to four hits, a double from Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA) and base knocks from Huntington, McNamara, and Kacie Nelson (St. Johnsbury, VT).
Herbert again bested McNamara in the pitching matchup, with both starters going the distance. Herbert earned the win after allowing only two runs and four hits, with seven strikeouts and five walks over seven innings. McNamara allowed four earned runs and six hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six frames.
The Hornets return home for a NAC doubleheader against the State University of New York at Delhi on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Skip Pound Softball Complex.
