Johnson, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon and Vermont State University Johnson softball teams squared off in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the Badgers captured wins in both a Nonth Atlantic Conference game and a non-conference matchup. Johnson improved to 4-17 overall and 2-5 in NAC play. Lyndon fell to 2-6 on the season and 0-5 in conference.
Game 1 - VTSU Johnson 18, VTSU Lyndon 4
After the Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Johnson exploded for 11 in the bottom of the frame and never looked back. Audrey Tembreull had three hits, drove in five runs, and scored three times to pace the Badgers. Kristie Zator also recorded three hits, including a home run, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Reddick chipped in with three hits and three runs batted in.
Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA), Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH), and Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Westminster, CO) each had a hit and a run batted in for the Hornets.
Johnson starter Hannah Corvino picked up the win in the circle, allowing six hits with eight strikeouts against five walks over five innings. McNamara went the distance for Lyndon and took the loss.
Game 2 - VTSU Johnson 15, VTSU Lyndon 5)
With Lyndon holding a 5-4 lead, Johnson broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and four more in the fourth. Corvino had a single and a double and three runs batted in. Reddick and Nikki Sweet each added two hits and two RBIs.
Gannon was three for three at the plate with a run batted in and a run scored for Lyndon. McNamara, Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH), and Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) each added a hit and an RBI.
Madyson Stingle went the distance to pick up the win for Johnson. She allowed seven hits and struck out six against four walks. McNamara again pitched a complete game and absorbed the loss.
