Huge final inning gives Hornet baseball a game one win in split with SUNY Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY - Vermont State University Lyndon and the State University of New York at Cobleskill met on the baseball diamond for another North Atlantic Conference doubleheader this afternoon.  The Hornets used a huge late rally to take game one before the Fighting Tigers rebounded to capture game two.  Lyndon is now 7-15 overall and 3-5 in NAC play.  Cobleskill is 11-12 on teh season and 9-3 in conference.

Game 1 - VTSU Lyndon 12, SUNY Cobleskill 8

Cobleskill held a 6-2 lead before Lyndon exploded for ten runs in the top of the seventh inning.  Sean Dunton (Quecheee, VT) was a perfect four for four with a two-run double in the pivotal seventh inning.  He also stole two bases and scored twice.  Tredell Blow (Yorktown, VA) was three for five with a three-run bases clearing double in the seventh.  Luke Senecal-Lamothe (Benson, VT) also had three hits and scored twice.

Jeffrey Gutierrez had three singles and scored twice for Cobleskill.  Ryan Lansing hit a three run home run.  Tony Woodie and Cole Platt also homered.

Nathan Bigelow (East Hampton, CT) started and picked up the win for Lyndon.  He allowed six runs, five earned, and seven hits over six innings, striking out a pair against one walk.  Na'eem Bornstein-Brown, the third of five Tiger pitchers, took the loss.

Game 2 - SUNY Cobleskill 7, VTSU Lyndon 1

Cobleskill plated four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to take control of the game.  Woodie hit a two-run home run and Logan Firment hit a solo shot.  Zach Papanikolatos had a pair of hits.

Blow had two singles, the only Hornet with multiple hits.  Matt Gonyeau (St. Albans, VT) drove in the only Lyndon run.

Connor Mulligan went the distance to pick up the win for Cobleskill.  He scattered seven hits and struck out three without yielding a walk.  Lyndon starter Tyler Kimball (Vergennes, VT) went four innings and took the loss after allowing four runs, only one earned, and five hits.  He struck out three without walking a batter.

The Hornets will travel to Lesley University for another NAC doubleheader on Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 am.
