Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Hornet men's tennis drops a pair to SUNY Delhi

Delhi, NY - Vermont State University Lyndon traveled to the State University of New York at Delhi for a pair of men's tennis matches on Saturday.  The host Broncos swept the two contests, taking both the Empire 8 Conference match and the non-conference match by identical 6-1 margins.  Delhi improved to 2-4 with the victories, while Lyndon remained winless in three outings.  The first match of the doubleheader was the conference opener for both squads.

Match #1 - SUNY Delhi 6, VTSU Lyndon 1

Delhi jumped in front by earning the doubles point, taking all three flights.  The Broncos took both first and second doubles by 6-0 margins.  In third doubles, the Delhi duo of Benjamin Andersen and Gavin Bonczkowski defeated Lyndon's David Gratton (Newport, VT) and Addie Jensen (Newport, VT), 6-1.

Lyndon's Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) got the Hornets on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Delhi's Devin Guerrieri in first singles.  However the Broncos won each of the other five flights without dropping a set to clinch the match.

Match #2 - SUNY Delhi 6, VTSU Lyndon 1

The Hornets were more competitive in the second doubles go around.  However the Broncos ultimately completed the doubles sweep to again jump in front.  McIntyre and Jack Giarrusso (Greenville, NY) fell to Andersen and Nolan Kleinasser, 6-3, in first doubles.  Delhi took the second and third flights by 6-1 margins.

McIntyre was again the lone bright spot in singles play.  He was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Kleinasser in the number one position.  That would again be the only Lyndon point, as Delhi swept the other five flights.

Lyndon travels to Thomas College next Saturday for another Empire 8 matchup.  Play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
