Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's basketball team battled North Atlantic Conference leading University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon at George W. Stannard Gymnasium. The Beavers used a late first half run to take control of what had been a tight contest, then pulled away after intermission for a 116-84 victory. The loss dropped the Hornets to 7–15 overall and 5–10 in NAC play, while the Beavers improved to 19–5 and 16–1 in the conference.
Charlie Houghton topped five Beavers in double figures, scoring 33 poits largely on the strength of 7/11 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Jason Reynolds recorded a double double of 24 points and 20 rebounds. Bryce Guitard and Kory Donlin chipped in 16 and 13 points respectively, while Gabe Michaud recorded a double double with 10 points and 11 assists.
Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) matched Houghton for game scoring honors, finishing with 33 points to pace Lyndon. He also pulled down a team best eight rebounds. Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) was the only other Hornet to reach double figures, scoring 21 points.
UMF held a commanding advantage on the glass, outrebounding Lyndon, 59-30, and collecting 23 offensive rebounds to three for the Hornets.
The Hornets will host Thomas College on Tuesday in their final home contest of the season. Tuesday's game will be Senior Night, as Lyndon seniors Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) and Chad Martin (Henniker, NH), along with graduate student Gonyea and December graduate and assistant coach Quinn Bressler will be honored prior to the 5:30 pm tip-off.
