Hornet women's soccer falls at SUNY Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY - The State University of New York at Cobleskill defeated Vermont State University Lyndon, 3-0, in non-conference women's soccer action Monday afternoon at the Cobleskill Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.

The Fighting Tigers scored twice in the opening half to take control.  Kailin Backus opened the scoring in the third minute and added her second goal in the 24th minute, with Liana Shambo assisting on the second tally.  Colette Kappauf extended the lead in the 53rd minute, finishing a pass from Kayla Lobycz.

Lyndon goalkeeper Ella Renaud (Hardwick, VT) made 12 saves as Cobleskill generated consistent pressure throughout the match.  The Fighting Tigers finished with a 24-4 advantage in shots and a 15-2 edge in shots on goal.  Lyndon created more opportunities in the second half, recording all four of its shots after halftime.  Kailee Dohrman (Buffalo, NY) and Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) each put a shot on goal for the Hornets.

Backus led Cobleskill with three shots on goal and two goals, while Kappauf added a goal and Lobycz finished with an assist.  Sammy Fausti made two saves to earn the shutout for the Fighting Tigers.

Lyndon fell to 1-7 overall, while Cobleskill improved to 3-5 on the season.  The Hornets return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Lesley University for an 8:30 p.m. NAC match.
