Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team earned a 72–50 North Atlantic Conference win over visiting Vermont State University Johnson on Saturday afternoon at George W. Stannard Gymnasium. The Hornets improved to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in confrence play, while the Badgers dropped to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in the NAC.
Johnson took a 17-8 lead midway through the opening quarter and still maintained a 22-28 lead when the quarter ended. Lyndon responded with a 27-7 second quarter blitz to take control of the contest. Lyndon extended the lead to as much as 25 points in the second half before settling for the 22-point win.
Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) led Lyndon with 19 points and added five rebounds. Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) finished with 11 points and four blocked shots.
VTSU Johnson was led by Kristie Zator, who scored a team-high 15 points and connected on four three-pointers. Jacquelyn Oberg and Faith Meade each added nine points for the Badgers.
Saturday's game was played in honor of Ben Lyons, a former Lyndon basketball player who was tragically killed in July of 2024. All proceeds from the game went to the Ben Lyons Memorial Jam Scholarship. Anyone wishing to donate to the scholarship may do so online.
Lyndon will return to North Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, January 24, when the Hornets travel to face Lesley University at Lexington High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
