Lyndonville, VT - Thomas College swept a pair of women's tennis matches from Vermont State University Lyndon on Sunday, taking both a North Atlantic Conference match and a non-conference match, both by 7-0 scores. The Terriers moved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference, while the Hornets remained winless in four matches, including two NAC matches.
Match #1 - Thomas 7, VTSU Lyndon 0
Thomas blanked Lyndon, delivering a dominant performance across both doubles and singles play.
Thomas grabbed all three doubles matches to open the matchup. The No. 1 pair of Taylor Juhase and Lily Daigle defeated Hawa Mubarak (Burlington, VT) and Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH) 6-0. In No. 2 doubles, Gigi Bhagat and Lillian Mickel shut out Lindsey Gannon Beverly, MA) and Megan Richardson (Essex Junction, VT) 6-0. The third doubles match was awarded by forfeit to Sarah Mack and Kayla Bailey of Thomas.
In singles, Thomas swept the first four flights. Juhase, Bhagat, Daigle, and Mickel each won in straight sets. Flights 5 and 6 were also awarded to Thomas by forfeit, sealing the shutout.
Match #2 - Thomas 7, VTSU Lyndon 0
Thomas College followed up with a second convincing victory over Lyndon. Doubles play again set the tone. The No. 1 doubles team of Juhase and Tracy Lopez defeated Lyndon's Mubarak and Murphy 6-2. In No. 2 doubles, Chesney Vollberg and Mack blanked Gannon and Richardson 6-0. Thomas's No. 3 pair, Mickel and Maya Gammon, won by forfeit.
In singles, Thomas claimed straight-set wins at flights 1, 2, and 4. Flight 3 provided Lyndon with its only set victory, as Gannon dropped a tight three-set match to Lopez, eventually losing the third set in a tiebreak. Flights 5 and 6 were awarded to Thomas by forfeit, closing out the sweep.
The Hornets will go on the road to face Vermont State University Castleton on Wednesday afternoon. The match will begin with doubles play at 4:00 pm.
