New London, CT – The Vermont State University Lyndon women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision at Mitchell College on Wednesday evening. The Mariners won by set scores of 25-11, 25-18, and 25-7. With the result, Mitchell improved to 6-1 overall, while Lyndon fell to 0-6.
Mitchell used a strong service game to control the match from start to finish, finishing with 27 aces compared to just four for Lyndon. The Mariners also held a 28-6 advantage in kills and posted a .276 team hitting percentage, while limiting the Hornets to a .000 attack efficiency.
Despite the defeat, several Hornets turned in solid performances. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) led the way with three kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while also recording a block and four digs. Sydney Clunis (Windsor, ON) added two kills, two assists, and two service aces. Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH) matched Clunis with two aces and contributed four digs. Defensively, Olivia Cordova (Craig, CO) and Alyssa Gerrish (Alburgh, VT) chipped in with four and three digs, respectively.
Mitchell was paced by Genna Hyde, who finished with eight kills, six aces, and six digs. Cimber Jenkins added seven kills and eight assists, while Jenna Blankenship and Kamila Ortiz-Plata combined for 11 aces.
The Hornets will play at home for the first time on Saturday. Lyndon will host Anna Maria College and Paul Smith's College. The Hornets and Amcats will open play at noon, followed by a match between Anna Maria and Paul Smith's. Lyndon and Paul Smith's will wrap up the day.
