Weymouth, MA - Vermont State University Lyndon couldn't generate any offense on Friday evening, falling to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 8-0. Wentworth improved to 3-9 with the win, while Lyndon fell to 2-6.
Josh Turcotte had a big game at the plate for Wentworth. He had a triple and two singles in four at bats with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Christian Roncal added a pair of hits and Nick Tiani scored three times.
Evan Duncan (Little Elm, TX) was a bright spot at the plate gor Lyndon. The sophomore went three for four with a double and a stolen base. Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT), EJ Camden (Corona, CA), and Sean Dunton (Quechee, VT) had the only other Hornet hits, as Lyndon never got a runner past second base in the contest.
Nigel Cross went the distance for Wentworth to record the six-hit shutout. He struck out eight against two walks over nine innings. Jack Holley (San Gabriel, CA) started for Lyndon and took the loss,
The Hornets will travel to Fisher College and open North Atlantic Conference play next weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday Lyndon will play the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a NAC game at 2:30 pm, then follow with a 6:00 pm non-conference matchup against host Fisher.
