Delhi, NY - Vermont State University Lyndon broke open a close game with a dominant second half and rolled past SUNY Delhi, 74–43, in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball play Saturday afternoon at Floyd L. Maines Arena.
The Hornets led just 29–28 at halftime after a cold shooting start, but they quickly seized control coming out of the break. Lyndon held Delhi to six points in the third quarter while putting up 21 of its own, building a double-digit cushion the Broncos never threatened. A 24–9 fourth quarter sealed the win.
Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) led Lyndon with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Senior guard Ella Huntington(Taylorsville, UT) added 13 points, seven assists and four rebounds in a steady all-around performance. Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) also scored 13, while Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) finished with 12 points, hitting four three-pointers. Keira Quintal (Sheffield, VT) controlled the paint with 12 rebounds to go with six points.
Lyndon's defense set the tone throughout, forcing 29 turnovers and turning them into 26 points. The Hornets outscored Delhi 36–18 in the paint and ran the floor effectively with 22 fast-break points. Lyndon also received 27 points from its bench.
Delhi was led by Sarah Gaetano, who scored 11 points. The Broncos struggled from the field, shooting 14-of-67 overall and 1-of-14 from three-point range.
With the win, Lyndon improved to 6–2 overall and 2–1 in the NAC. Delhi dropped to 1–8 and 0–4 in conference play. The Hornets travel to New England College on Tuesday evening for a 5:00 pm non-conference matchup.
