New Haven, CT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's basketball team got a taste of NCAA Division I competition on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to the University of New Haven. The Chargers, members of the Northeast Conference, used their superior size and athleticism to cruise to a 122-51 victory over the Hornets. The game was classified as an exhibition for Lyndon, but was countable for New Haven, who improved to 3-4 on the season.
The Hornets started the game strong, as a pair of three pointers from Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) and Max Kocha (Jupiter, FL) staked Lyndon to an early 6-4 advantage. However with the game ties at 8-8, New Haven took control with a 10-0 run. A 20-2 run a short time later Put the game away for the Chargers.
New Haven dominated nearly every phase of the game. The Chargers scored 62 points in the paint and owned the glass, outrebounding Lyndon 54-23. New Haven also scored 38 points off of 24 Hornet turnovers.
Seven New Haven players reached double figures, led by Kheni Briggs with 17 points. Zoumana Traore added 13 points and Tristan Burth notched a double double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
McIntyre was Lyndon's only double figure scorer, finishing with 16 points.Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) grabbed seven rebounds for the Hornets.
Lyndon will open North Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday, December 2nd, when they host Lesley University at 5:30 pm.
