Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon Hornets women's basketball team used a strong first half and balanced team effort to secure a 66–47 home victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at George W. Stannard Gymnasium.
Lyndon jumped out to a 17–10 lead after one quarter and extended the margin to 39–24 by halftime. The Hornets then held Wentworth to just 23 points over the final two quarters while adding 27 more of their own to seal the win.
Sophomore guard Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) led the way for Lyndon, finishing with 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting (6-of-10 from three) along with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Senior guard Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) contributed 15 points, made 4 of 6 free throws, and added 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes of action. Senior forward Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) recorded 12 rebounds (3 offensive), 8 points and 5 assists, anchoring the interior on both ends of the floor.
Lyndon's scoring balance and early control of the game proved decisive, as the Hornets built a double-digit lead by halftime and never relinquished it. Strong defense and rebounding also fueled the win, with the Hornets holding Wentworth to 27.1 percent shooting and limiting second-chance opportunities. Lyndon's offensive spacing helped generate 10 made three-pointers on 40 attempts, contributing to a steady offensive rhythm throughout.
Wentworth was paced by Mia Luna Zayas with 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting, including five three-pointers. Gianna Gioia added 14 points and 7 assists, but the visitors were unable to sustain consistent offense, managing only 8 points in the paint.
The win improves Lyndon to 4–1 on the season, while Wentworth falls to 0–5.
