Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted their 6th annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween. They quickly followed up Trunk or Treat with Hornet Madness, a basketball themed event to get campus buzzing about the upcoming men and women's basketball seasons.
Trunk or Treat had to move out of the SHAPE Center Parking lot and indoors to Bole Gymnasium this year because of poor weather. Despite the weather, the event was still successful, with many families and local community members still coming out to the event. Lyndon's athletic teams and several of its clubs decorated tables instead of trunks and passed out candy, popcorn, and even hot dogs to trick or treaters.
Five days after the trunk or treat event, SAAC, in conjunction with Lyndon Intramurals, hosted Hornet Madness in the Stannard Gymnasium. The event introduced on campus students to both the Men and Women's basketball players. Several teams consisting of a men's team and women's team players took on a skills challenge before the crowd was called on to compete in a dizzy shooting competition and then a 3-point shooting competition. The night ended with students being called to take a half-court shot to win a custom Lyndon jacket. The shot was made by just the second contestant called up to compete.
SAAC Advisor Tara Nelson commented on the events, "Trunk or Treat was a huge success this year despite the cold and rainy weather. We moved this year's event inside and had a great turnout from our campus community and the greater Lyndonville area. I am delighted that this Lyndon tradition is an important part of many families' Halloween festivities. Our inaugural Hornet Madness event was in collaboration with Lyndon Intramurals. Together we provided our Lyndon basketball fans with a fun evening of games and prizes. Our SAAC leaders did a wonderful job planning, organizing and hosting these events. Many thanks to Quinn Bressler, Lindsey Gannon, Tyler Dias, Gregory Gonyea, Carter Paquette, Parker Pierce as well as our entire SAAC membership for their leadership and involvement in these successful events."
SAAC President and Lyndon Hornet soccer player Quinn Bressler (Norton, MA) added, "It has been a goal of mine to have SAAC be more active on campus this year with events both for students and our local community. Both of these events were a step closer to reaching that goal. It was amazing to see so many families attending our Trunk or Treat events and to see our student body come out to support both Trunk or Treat and Hornet Madness. I want to give a big thank you to our athletic administration for helping out every step of the way, and to our amazing SAAC members who have been attending meetings and helping prepare for the events!"
SAAC is a student body of student athlete leaders, representing each of Lyndon's 12 varsity athletic programs. Bressler serves as president, Tyler Dias (Woonsocket, RI) as vice president, Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA) as secretary, Carter Paquette (Shoreham, VT) as treasurer, and Parker Peirce (Woodstock, VT) as SGA representative.
