Tara Nelson was appointed as Assistant Athletic Director in June of 2022, and to Athletic and SHAPE Operations Manager in September of 2023. In her role, she is responsible for oversight, management, and scheduling of Lyndon's SHAPE facility, consisting of the college swimming pool and fitness center, along with the Stannard and Bole gymnasiums. She is also involved in many aspects of the athletic department's daily operations, including the scheduling and supervision of student workers, coordination of department transportation, scheduling of game officials, purchasing, budgeting, compliance, recruiting, department oversight, and other various administrative functions.
Nelson was also named the athletic department's Senior Woman Administrator in August of 2024.
Nelson first came to Lyndon in January of 2020. Prior to her promotion to Assistant Athletic Director she served as Athletic Office Assistant and SHAPE Coordinator.
Prior to coming to NVU-Lyndon, Nelson spent over four years as a veterinary assistant at the Barton Veterinary Hospital in Barton, VT. She had previously worked as a Payroll Assistant and an Administrative Assistant for North Country Supervisory Union in Newport, VT, and as a Customer Service Secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont in Montpelier, VT. Nelson was also active in local government. She was appointed to an unexpired term on the Town Select Board in Glover, VT, in 2008, and was subsequently elected to the position in 2009.
Nelson holds an Associate of Science degree in Business Management from Champlain College in Burlington, VT, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Studies and a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from Vermont State University. She is a lifelong resident of the Northeast Kingdom, is an avid runner, and enjoys spending time with her family.
