CANTON, N.Y. – The VTSU Lyndon Hornets women's soccer team was shut out Thursday afternoon at SUNY Canton Roos, falling 9-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at the Canton Turf Field.
Lyndon (1-12) was outweighed by a relentless Canton attack, which piled up an 83-41 shot advantage while holding the Hornets to zero attempts on goal. Vermont State University Lyndon starting goalkeeper Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) played all 90 minutes and recorded 32 saves, a Lyndon record in the modern NCAA Division III era. The mark was previously held by Lauren Young (Danville, VT), who stopped 29 shots in a 2018 game against Becker College.
Canton struck early and often, opening the scoring at the 13:45 mark when Andrea Cary converted a deflected cross from Ella O'Neil. Minutes later, Maddie Armstrong doubled the lead with another assist from O'Neil. Cary added her second at 31:15, setting the tone before the break.
In the second half, the Roos continued their dominance. Elly Gamble scored at 45:49 and again at 65:00, while Armstrong chipped in another goal at 50:54. Sam Scott made it 6-0 at 60:43, Chloe Thomas contributed at 69:29, and Kenadie Garrow capped the scoring at 71:46 after an assist from Armstrong.
With today's game Lyndon brings down the curtain on the 2025 season. After not competing in 2024, the Hornets look to build from this season back to a competitive level in 2026.
