Lyndonville, VT- The Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team fell to the State University of New York at Cobleskill Fighting Tigers by a score of 77-51 in Friday evening's North Atlantic Conference matchup. The Hornets dropped to 4-11 and 2-5 in the conference, while the Fighting Tigers improved their season record to 16-4 and their conference record to 6-2.
Both teams had a slow start to the game, but then SUNY Cobleskill would take over the game and never looked back. The Fighting Tigers dominated the Hornets on the defensive end, making them take tough shots and holding them to 32.7% from the field. SUNY Cobleskill also grabbed nineteen more rebounds than Lyndon, twenty of them being offensive rebounds leading up to seventeen second chance points. Lyndon had a tough time keeping SUNY Cobleskill out of the paint, where the Tigers scored 48 points.
The Fighting Tigers had four players in double digits with Taylor Meacham scoring twenty points, followed by Antonia May with fourteen points.
The leading scorer for the Hornets was senior guard Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) with sixteen points. Sophomore guard Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) added ten points.
The Hornets have an opportunity to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they face off against the State University of New York at Delhi Broncos at 1:00 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
