Hornet men can't overcome UMaine-Farmington

Lyndonville, VT - The University of Maine at Farmington used a 10-0 run late in the first half of Sunday's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game at Vermont State University Lyndon to open some daylight in what had been a tightly contested game.  The visiting Beavers were able to hold off the Hornets the rest of the way to come away with an 85-68 victory and improve to 9-7 on the season and 6-1 in the NAC.  Lyndon fell to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in conference.

Dylan Griffin led UMaine-Farmington with 22 points on ten of 12 shooting.  Zach McLaughlin was next with 13 points, while Simon Chadbourne and Will Harriman added 12 and ten points respectively.  Jason Reynolds pulled down a game high eight rebounds and Gabe Michaud dished out seven assists.

Freshman Tyler Bergmans (Ferrisburgh, VT) paced Lyndon with 17 points and five rebounds.  Another freshman, Tyler Cooper (Sterling, NY) also reached double figures with 13 points and Matt Doyle added nine points and four rebounds.  Victor Kukta Reyes (Fitchburg, MA) dished out six assists without committing a turnover.

UMF connected on 34 of 66 shots (51.5%) including eight of 31 (38.1%) from behind the three point arc.  Meanwhile Lyndon only converted 25 of 66 attempts (37.9%) and only seven of 24 (29.2%) from long range.  The Beavers held a 43-30 rebounding advantage.  The Hornets forced 17 Beaver turnovers while committing 13 themselves.

Lyndon travels to the University of Maine at Presque Isle next Sunday for their final NAC crossover contest.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
